Tool & Supply Checklist for Polaris Ranger 1000 Fluid Change

  • 1 qt Demand Drive Fluid + 2 qts AGL (you’ll use a bit less).
  • 6 mm Allen/torx bits, ratchet, drain pans, funnel, nitrile gloves, rags.
  • Torque wrench that reads 8–14 ft-lb.
  • Small wire brush and blue shop-towel squares for spotless sealing seats.

  1. Level it up – Park on flat ground, shift to PARK, chock wheels.
  2. Pull the fill plug (rear face of gearcase). Removing it now prevents a vacuum later.
  3. Drain – Through the skid-plate hole, crack the bottom plug and let 41 fl oz of used AGL run out.
  4. Clean & re-install drain plug – Inspect its magnet for chunks; fine fuzz is normal. Torque 10–14 ft-lb.
  5. Refill – Add AGL until fluid kisses the lower thread of the fill port. A small flashlight helps you see the meniscus.
  6. Re-install fill plug – Same 10–14 ft-lb spec. Wipe the case dry so any new seep is obvious.

  1. Optional wheel removal – Popping off the passenger-side front wheel gives clear sight-lines but isn’t mandatory.
  2. Pull the side fill plug – Right side of the housing—this also acts as the level check.
  3. Drain – Place a pan, remove the bottom right drain plug, and watch 10-12 fl oz of dark fluid exit.
  4. Clean, inspect, reinstall drain plug – Torque 11 ft-lb.
